chin surgery
A genioplasty or repositioning of the chin bone can transform facial
appearance. Advancing the chin bone tightens the musculature on
the floor of the mouth and helps to correct jowls and a sagging
neck.
Chin implants have a similar effect but do not tighten the musculature.
Some chin implants may erode into the bone over time lessening the
initial effect and causing other complications with teeth and local
nerves and genioplasty is often a better option if a significant
advancement is contemplated.

This patient had a combination of a recessive
chin and a cleft chin. I have corrected the cleft using a
dermis graft and an intraoral incision.
The chin bone has then been advanced (advancement genioplasty). |

Genioplasty (chin advancement) is performed using an incision inside
the mouth. Dissolving stitches are used. It does not alter the position
of the teeth. It can substantially alter a persons profile and facial
balance and harmony.
