A (breast lift) mastopexy lifts a breast and the
nipple-areola complex to give it a more youthful appearance.
This is a particularly popular procedure to treat
drooping of the breast after cessation of breast feeding.
A breast implant may be placed concurrently if more
volume is desired. I often combine this procedure with
abdominoplasty.
A breast will always drop after a mastopexy and so
it is over-elevated initially. In about 10% of cases
a second further skin tightening procedure may be required
6 months later despite initial over elevation and this
can usually be done under local anaesthetic.
It is important to understand the likely placement
of scars, effects on nipple sensation and possible shape
changes over time. Before and after photographs of other
patients of mine are shown to prospective patients to
illustrate the typical range of results and where scars
are placed.
